- How different aspects of deadwood (e.g. species, age, position) affect deadwood-dependent microbes (fungi & bacteria) in terms of community composition, diversity, and function
- Different scales of diversity: forest stand, regional, and landscape scales
- Influence of microclimate (i.e. local moisture and temperature) on microbes and wood decomposition
